The Morning My Baby Picked Her Outfit and I Saw Everything Differently

Jul 07, 2025

This morning something unexpected happened. My ten month old was sitting on the floor surrounded by clothes. Some folded, some tossed, one dress completely draped over her head. She pulled at a soft little romper with embroidered flowers and waved it in the air like a trophy.

She chose it. And somehow, I knew that meant something.

I used to think babies just wore whatever we put them in. That style and comfort were for later. But the way her hands lingered on that smocked cotton and the way she smiled when I slipped it over her arms made me stop and think. Even at ten months, they feel everything. They move better in some things. They smile more in others. They are already choosing comfort. They are already choosing joy.

So now, when I shop for baby clothes, I think less about trends and more about textures. I pay attention to softness and stretch. I ask if she can crawl in it or nap in it or look absolutely lovable in it without even trying.

Every little outfit becomes more than fabric. It becomes part of her tiny growing world. And honestly, watching her explore it with her own little sense of style is something I never expected to love this much.

If you are dressing a baby right now, maybe you already know this. Or maybe you are just starting to notice how those tiny hands are beginning to guide the choices. Either way, trust it. There is magic in the way they know what they want before they can even say it.

And that is where the real style begins.
